Portfolio Backtesting in eSignal

We are often asked if eSignal supports portfolio backtesting and unfortunately the answer is no. The only backtester currently available is integrated into the chart component. If a EFS indicator or system that is currently loaded into the chart is "backtester-ready" then you can right-click on the study title and select the Show Backtest Report option, which will produce a backtest for the charted symbol and interval only.

IEX Developer Platform

Up until recently if you wanted access to free price data you had at least a couple of options, namely the API's made available by Yahoo Finance and Google Finance. Unfortunately, in both cases, the service has been discontinued.

The eSignal Comeback?

Back in the early 2000's eSignal was known as one of the premier charting/technical analysis platforms, primarily because of their data which has always been top-shelf. During this decade eSignal was consistently in the running for top charting platform based on the annual Readers' Choice awards at Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities.

Product Spotlight - Auto Stop

The Auto Stop indicator is available for the eSignal platform and it's core logic is very similar to the popular SuperTrend indicator, with some major enhancements including Manual and Continuous modes of operation, a profit-protect feature, extensive configuration options, alerts, reverse-on-touch or reverse-on-close options, and it is backtester-ready.

In The News - Technician

The Technician mobile technical analysis/trading platform (formerly by ChartIQ) has been acquired by a third-party. More details concerning the acquisition as well as the future of the Technician platform should be available early Q1 2018.

eSignal Watchlists and Hibernation Mode

If you pull up a watchlist in eSignal and then click on the Watch List menu option in the top menu bar you will see an option called Hibernation Mode, and most likely there will be a checkmark next to it. What is it for?

"...leaving Hibernation Mode on might cause problems."

eSignal Time Templates

eSignal Time Templates are one of the most important, yet least understood, components of the charting platform.

Mailing List Reminder

Just a reminder to those folks who have subscribed to our mailing list, the 40% end-of-year discount code that was recently sent to you will expire today (12/15) at midnight EST. The 30% discount code will remain available until 12/31.

Multi-Timeframe Backtesting in eSignal

Most eSignal users are probably aware that EFS allows for the development of multi-timeframe indicators, meaning that different components of the indicator can be running in different bar intervals.

"Multi-timeframe backtesting can be hazardous to your health"

Protecting EFS Scripts in eSignal (Part 3)

A question we frequently get from eSignal users who are building their own EFS indicators is "How can I protect the source code?".

Note: this discussion assumes you are running eSignal 12.x or newer

There are a few options depending upon your ultimate goal:
  • Encryption only (Covered in Part 1);
  • Encryption and basic licensing control (Covered in Part 2);
  • Encryption and enhanced licensing control;

Encryption and Enhanced Licensing Control

This scenario is very similar to what we covered under Part 2 (Encryption and Basic Licensing Control), the difference being in the scope of the licensing control component. For some of you, basic licensing control might not be enough. For example, if you need one or more of the following features:
